Our story

Every trip has a point where the bitumen stops.

Sometimes it's a red gravel road running toward a flat horizon. Sometimes it's a fire trail climbing into snow gums, or a sandy track behind the dunes, or a boardwalk running out into a floodplain at first light. The tyres go quiet. The country gets bigger. You start paying attention.

That's what we mean by outback. Not one place on the map, but the point where you leave the easy way behind.

Outback Outfitters kits you out for it. Packs and boots for the walk in. Shelter and light for the night. Binoculars for the brolgas on the far side of the water. The newest, best-made gear we can find, chosen for Australian heat, dust, cold and salt, and explained plainly by people who use it.

Modern gear. Timeless craft.

Everything we range is current and top of its class, chosen for performance, accuracy and safety: ED glass that keeps colours true at first light, laser rangefinding, GPS and satellite messengers that get you home. We'd rather you got the right gear than the most expensive, so ask us anything before you buy.

Most of the country past the bitumen is someone's country, and has been for a very long time. We travel through it with respect: we follow the permits and park rules, we leave it as we found it, and we tell you how to do the same.

Beyond the bitumen.
